iRepair on the Danforth

My cracked the screen on her iPhone 4 a few months ago, and had it replaced by a store whose name escapes me up in North York.

A while later, she started having problems with her proximity sensor, which she tried to get fixed using iRepair at their Uptown Location. They were nice enough, but, ultimately, failed. They worked on the phone a few times and each time reported that they believed it was fixed, it would work in the store, and then after taking it home, the proximity sensor would stop working again.

After going back and forth from our east-end home to uptown for this repair a few times, my wife got tired of it, and took her phone in to the Danforth Location, which is much closer to our house.

Her first visit was a lot like the uptown visits, they made an attempt to fix it, but it went back to not working thereafter. The staff at this location however was very clear that if they couldn't get it working, they would give her money back, and my wife felt the overall experience at the Danforth store was more to her liking.

When they took it back in a second time, they speculated that it was, in fact, the glass on the non-OEM screen that had been put in (in the first paragraph above) that was interfering with the proximity sensor as it aged, and so they replaced that. They also gave her a card to get a free coffee at the nearby Red Rocket while she waited for the repair, which was a nice touch.

The phone has basically worked fine ever since. I wanted to share our experience and suggest that if you need an Apple device repaired, you don't want to take it to Apple (presumably either because it's less convenient or more money), and you live in the east end of Toronto, iRepair on the Danforth is, in our experience, a good place to try. They seem to value customer service and the customer experience more than most similar shops, and, although it's only one data-point so far, we were pretty happy with the end result.
