Luther - Season 3 (TV)

Season 3 of Britain's Luther (wikipedia, amazon, iTunes, imdb) is riveting, like the previous two seasons. The cast is outstanding, from Idris Elba on down, the stories are gripping (if occasionally violent), they aren't afraid to cut characters when you still care about them. It can have a dark storyline, and Luther is far from perfect even when he's helping people, but that's part of the appeal for me.

Although the British television propensity for very short seasons can be mildly frustrating, it also means that a show rarely gets a chance to wear out its welcome, to get into a rut. Luther definitely benefits from that approach.

If you haven't watched it, I would be happy to recommend it as long as some periods of violence and imperfect characters aren't enough to scare you away.

Also, Idris Elba is hot. (Seems only fair, since I called out Lizzy Caplan in Masters of Sex.)

I've only just learned that there will be no season four, but that there may be a feature film. I'll miss it, but I'm not opposed to series going out on a high note. I'll keep my eye out for the feature film, then.
